Every product name on this site, decoded

People arrive here searching for "tempo sex toy", "dune sex toy", "elemental sex toys" and "secret vibrations". They have seen a name somewhere and want to know what the thing is.

The honest answer is that our product names are built from a system, that most people have never had the system explained to them, and that one of the three parts carries almost all of the useful information while another carries none at all.

Here is the whole thing.

The naming formula

Nearly every product on this site is named to the same structure:

[Colour or mood word] + [Form word] + [Material] + [Category]

Onyx Pinnacle Silicone Butt Plug. Orchard Tempo Silicone Rabbit Vibrator. Dune Grip Silicone Cock Ring. Soft Aura Silicone Clitoral Vibrator.

Read right to left and the name gets more useful as you go. The last two parts are plain fact: what it is made of, what it is. The middle word describes the shape. The first word is decoration.

Most people read left to right, latch onto the first word, and search for that. Which is why we get searches for "Tempo" and "Dune" and "Secret" — the least informative part of the name is the part that sticks.

The first word means nothing

We have said this before in The Aura range: eleven products, one name, no pattern and in The Copper range — and no, it isn't made of copper, and it is worth repeating in one place.

The first word is a colourway or mood label. It does not indicate a product family, a shared technology, a price tier, or a manufacturer. Products sharing a first word are frequently in completely different departments and have nothing functionally in common.

Eleven products carry the name Aura. Seven carry Silk. Seven carry Infinite. Five carry Serene. Three carry Secret. In each case the products span multiple categories, several manufacturers and a wide price range.

The clearest illustration is Copper, which is a colour and not a metal. There is no copper in a Copper Taper Anal Beads set — it is silicone, in a copper colourway. Real copper would be an actively poor choice for an intimate product, because copper oxidises on contact with moisture and forms surface compounds that transfer to skin. So: if you are searching for a first word, you are searching for a colour. Useful for matching a set. Useless for working out what the product does.

The second word is where the information is

This is the part nobody explains, and it is the genuinely useful half of the system. The second word is a form descriptor, and it is broadly consistent across the catalogue.

Taper — a gradual cone. Widens slowly across its length. The most forgiving shape in any category and the standard recommendation for anyone sizing up. Clove Taper, Grove Taper, Halcyon Taper, Muse Taper.

Anchor — base-weighted or base-emphasised, built for wear rather than movement. Ember Anchor, Ivory Anchor, Marble Anchor.

Curve — angled rather than straight, designed to reach a specific spot rather than to fill. Almost always the right word to look for in prostate and G-spot products. Meridian Curve, Lark Curve, Verve Curve.

Step — graduated. Distinct stages rather than a smooth taper, so you get a clear sense of progress and a decision point at each ridge. Fathom Step, Opal Step, Cinder Step.

Bloom — a bulb that flares and then narrows sharply. More dramatic on entry than a taper. Basalt Bloom, Wren Bloom.

Ascent / Rise / Pinnacle / Crest / Apex / Vertex — the height vocabulary. These trend larger or more specialised within their category. Onyx Pinnacle and Vertex sit at the more advanced end of their respective ranges.

Contour / Column / Cast — used mainly on glass. Contour follows the body's line, Column is straight, Cast is a moulded organic form.

Grip / Band / Hold — restriction and tension products. Cock rings and similar. Dune Grip, Silt Band, Copper Hold.

Pulse / Impulse / Rhythm / Cadence / Tempo — the motion vocabulary. Something in the product varies over time: vibration patterns, air-pulse, rhythm settings.

Whisper / Quiet / Hush — noise-led. These are the ones to look at if you share walls. Silk Whisper, Quiet Taper, Hush Anchor, Secret Whisper.

It is not a perfect system. Meridian appears as a first word in Meridian Curve and as a second word in Crimson Meridian. A handful of products, like Silhouette and Odyssey, are single-word names that skip the formula entirely. But as a rule of thumb, the second word will tell you more about a product in one glance than the first word will tell you ever.

The names people search for, one by one

Tempo

There is one Tempo: the Orchard Tempo Silicone Rabbit Vibrator, made by VeDO, around £39.

Three motors, ten vibration modes, three speeds, USB-rechargeable and fully submersible. The name is doing its job — Tempo is motion vocabulary, and this is a product built around varying rhythm rather than raw intensity.

One thing the listing is direct about: it is not flagged as beginner friendly. Three motors across clitoral and internal contact points is a lot of simultaneous input if it is your first rabbit. Dune

One product: the Dune Grip Silicone Cock Ring, around £24.95. Made by Oxballs.

Manual, no power, body-safe silicone, and specifically not waterproof — worth noting, because most silicone products in this catalogue are. Water-based lubricant only; silicone lube and oils will degrade it.

Elemental

One product: the Elemental Suite Bondage Kit, around £187. Mixed materials, manual, flagged beginner friendly, and frequently out of stock.

Secret

Three products, and the one people are searching for is almost certainly the Secret Impulse Silicone Remote Panties, around £123.

Waterproof, USB-rechargeable, remote controlled, 45mm insertable, flared base, beginner friendly. It sits inside lingerie and is operated from a distance, which is a specific use case rather than a general one. Secret Whisper and Secret Rhythm share the colourway and nothing else.

Silhouette

A rare single-word name: the Silhouette Silicone Remote Panties, around £96. Waterproof, USB-rechargeable, 35mm insertable, ultra-soft silicone, long-range remote.

The practical comparison with Secret Impulse: Silhouette is smaller (35mm versus 45mm), softer and cheaper; Secret Impulse is larger and has more pattern control. Both live in remote panties. Neither is an upgrade of the other.

Crown

The Lotus Crown Silicone Rabbit Vibrator, around £134. Waterproof, USB-rechargeable, 45mm insertable, flared base, beginner friendly, and it combines internal vibration with external air-pulse suction rather than a traditional rabbit arm.

That last part matters. If you searched "dildo crown" expecting a shape feature, this is a rabbit-style vibrator with a suction element, not a crowned dildo.

Band

The Silt Band Silicone Cock Ring, around £48. Waterproof, manual, soft stretch-fit silicone, 25mm, beginner friendly.

Against Dune Grip: Silt Band is softer, stretchier, waterproof and more forgiving; Dune Grip is firmer and not waterproof. If it is your first, the softer one is the sensible starting point. Who actually makes these

A fair question, and one the product names deliberately do not answer.

Some products here are house-named versions of items from established manufacturers, and the maker is listed on the individual product page even when it is not in the name. Names you will find behind our listings include Oxballs, Doc Johnson, VeDO, b-Vibe, Prowler RED, Brutus, Creative Conceptions, Satisfyer, Screaming O, BeWicked and Geeky & Kinky.

So if you searched for a manufacturer rather than a product — Oxballs, Doc Johnson dildos — the answer is that we carry them, and the fastest route is to filter by material and category in the shop and check the brand line on the product page. Quick reference

Two things stand out when they are lined up like this. The products people search for by first name are spread across four different departments — they are not a family. And the "beginner friendly" flag does not track price at all: Orchard Tempo at around £39 is not flagged, while Lotus Crown at around £134 is.

Comparing two products with similar names

The names will not help you here, so use the spec fields instead. The method that works, in order:

Category first. Two products with the same first word are frequently in different departments. Check what the product actually is before comparing anything else.

Insertable length second. This is the number that most reliably predicts whether something will suit you, and it is stated on every listing. Silhouette at 35mm and Secret Impulse at 45mm are a meaningful 10mm apart in the same category — that is a real difference, not a marketing tier.

Material and firmness third. "Ultra-soft silicone" on the Silhouette listing and plain "body-safe silicone" on Secret Impulse is a genuine distinction, not copywriting. Soft compresses and forgives; standard transmits more.

Water resistance fourth, because it is the field most likely to surprise you. Dune Grip is not waterproof while Silt Band is, despite both being manual silicone cock rings at a similar price. That affects cleaning as much as bath use.

Price last. It correlates with feature count, not with suitability. A more expensive product in the same category is not a better version of the cheaper one, and on this site it is frequently a different thing entirely.

How to search this site properly

Given all of the above, the efficient approach:

Ignore the first word. It is a colour.

Search the second word plus the category. "Taper butt plug" will get you every gradual cone we stock, across every colourway and price point. That is a far more useful result set than any single colour name.

Check the spec block, not the description. Every listing carries material, insertable length, water resistance, power, control type, flared base and beginner suitability as structured fields. The marketing paragraph is the least reliable part of any product page, including ours.
