The hardest part is rarely the toy. It is the implication people hear underneath the suggestion: that something was missing. Name that first, out loud, before the object comes up at all.

Timing beats phrasing. A conversation at the kitchen table on a Tuesday lands very differently from the same words in bed. Ask a question rather than making a proposal — "is there something you have been curious about?" invites a partner in, where "I bought us something" asks them to react on the spot.

Agree on a way to stop. Any new dynamic needs an exit that costs nothing to use: a word, a gesture, a rule that stopping is never explained afterwards. Couples who set that up first tend to try more, not less.
