Quiet toys and thin walls

Motor noise is dominated by frequency, not volume. A high-pitched buzz carries through plasterboard; a low rumble at the same decibel level dissipates within a metre. This is why a toy that measures louder on paper can be far more discreet in practice.

Everything is louder against the body than in your hand, and louder still under a duvet, which traps and reflects sound. If discretion matters, test it in the room you will use it in.

Our Quiet by Design collection is filtered on low-frequency motors and soft-touch housings. None of them are silent. Anything advertised as silent is either not running or not telling the truth.
